Value description
The healthy living environment value represents a long-term sustainable quality of resources (soil, water, air, food, housing, transport or services) needed for a healthy and quality life. One of the indicators of a healthy environment is the long-term sustainable quality of life and health. We cannot focus only on one factor in the long run, instead we need to repeatedly evaluate which one has the most negative impact on the environment and health. Essential for the setting of priorities is access to all the information, the ability to integrate and evaluate it.
Contribution to the city
Available data on the quality of the environment (air, emissions and noise) and its health impact will be made available to the public and the administration and will serve as a basis for objective assessment of the problems and prioritization of interventions. In priority areas, efficient measures will be taken to improve the situation. The impact of the most important factors with a negative impact on the environment and the health of the population will be gradually reduced.

Jana Klánová
Jana Klánová, Professor at Masaryk University and Director of the Research Center of Toxic Substances in the Environment (RECETOX), has long been engaged in research in the field of environment pollution, human exposure to toxic substances and human health impacts. In addition to the research, she coordinates international networks monitoring the occurrence and behaviour of chemicals in the environment and their accumulation in humans as well as long-term population studies. She represents Masaryk University and Brno in European projects such as ICARUS (focusing on healthy smart cities), HBM4EU (human biomonitoring for Europe) or ERA PLANET (improving global data accessibility).
GOAL | INDICATOR | UNIT | ACTUAL VALUE | FUTURE VALUE | TERRITORIAL PROJECTION | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
primary | Reduce the incidence of factors with negative impact on human health and environment | Will be projected in spatial planning, soil management, green areas, construction, transport and parking lots, waste management, waste water treatment, cleaning of the city etc. |
||||
other | Gather available regional data on the quality of the environment and its health impact | substantial change in quantity and quality of publicly available data on the quality of the environment |
||||
other | Take measures to improve the situation | specific measures to protect soil and water, ensure the sustainability of drinking water sources, improve air quality, reduce emissions, dust and noise, city green development, optimize transport, increase share of recycled waste etc. |
||||
other | Involve key stakeholders and population groups in the implementation, including enterprises, research institutions and schools, make use of existing projects and population studies | involvement of Brno in international projects, new partnerships, mobility, opportunities for innovative businesses |
||||
other | Based on such data, prioritise areas where efficient intervention is needed and possible | better interconnection of individual areas, i.e. plans for the development of construction, transport, industry with environmental protection measures and health promotion |
